PsychArmor CEO Dr. Tina Atherall selected to serve on a Department of Health and Human Services national advisory council

San Diego, CA - PsychArmor CEO Dr. Tina Atherall will join the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Advisory Council. SAMHSA is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation and to improve the lives of individuals living with mental and substance use disorders, and their families.

“I’m honored to serve on the SAMHSA National Advisory Council. Their mission to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America’s communities aligns with both my personal values and professional work,” says Atherall. “As a social worker, I care deeply about leveraging public health models to offer long-term solutions to families and communities in crisis, particularly as it aligns with PsychArmor’s mission to improve outcomes for military-affiliated communities.”

Council members are selected from among the leading representatives of the health disciplines (including public health and behavioral and social sciences) relevant to the activities of SAMHSA for a term of four years.

Dr. Atherall’s selection continues PsychArmor’s relationship with SAMHSA established through our aligned missions to reduce suicide in Veteran populations. During the three years of her tenure as CEO, she has expanded PsychArmor’s role as a leading training partner on the Governor’s Challenge, SAMHSA’s initiative to educate state employees on suicide prevention best practices. Thirty-five states received training through PsychArmor’s online learning portal in  2021, with 13 states and two territories joining in 2022.
