New Course Launches To Train Civilians in Military Culture
Four-part series offers in-depth look into military life and transition from service
San Diego, CA– PsychArmor has released The Basics of Military Culture, a four-part course to support their foundational Veteran Ready curriculum. Sponsored by Comcast NBCUniversal, the new course will be available on PsychArmor’s online learning library free to individual learners and will serve as a critical second-tier level to their Veteran Ready Organization training for businesses, communities, government agencies and institutes of higher education that want to more effectively support and genuinely connect with military and Veteran communities.
The four videos that make up the course each take a deep dive into a defining aspect of daily life in the military: Service, Values, People, and Transition from service, covering topics such as the commitment required to serve, the values that guide military culture, the diversity and inclusivity within the military, and the challenges service members and their families face during and after their service.
Expanding on ideas presented in PsychArmor’s foundational course 15 Things Veterans Want You To Know, this series introduces six characters who made the choice to serve their country representing different branches of service, active duty and reserves, in addition to a variety of ranks and occupations. With a look borrowed from vintage military newsreels, and a cast brought to life by Marine Corps Veteran and graphic artist Danté Bickham, this series offers an authentic glimpse into service in the U.S. Armed Forces – through the words of those who serve.
The series introduces the illustrations of Bickham who got a degree in graphic design and animation after transitioning from service. Working on the PsychArmor military culture series put him in the role of illustrator for the first time, allowing him to do what he loved, as well as honor his time in the military. He referenced photos and friends as he worked to bring the characters in the courses to life.
“It helped remind me of the hard work I had put into the military,” says Bickham. “I could tell that Veterans were involved in the scripting.”
