Barriers to Treatment

How can healthcare providers make asking for help easier for Veteran patients? This course, “Barriers to Treatment,” helps you support and encourage your veteran patients to seek mental health treatment if they need to. Join Dr. Shauna Springer, the Senior Director of Suicide Prevention and Postvention Initiatives at Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, as she helps learners to: Recognize the stigma that exists in military culture about mental health problems and treatment; Understand that military personnel may associate mental health providers with negative evaluations, which can make it hard to ask for help; Describe the differences between the mission focus of military service and the individual focus of mental health treatment and discuss how those differences affect mental health stigma; and Understand how to help a military or Veteran patient overcome barriers to seeking treatment.

Hi n2shopin, it depends if you’re enrolled in the course already. On the course page, next to “Watch Introduction”, click the button “Enroll Now” and it will take you to the course. If you’re already enrolled, that button will not be there. In that case, you click the lesson name (under Lessons which is under Course Materials). If you have any more issues, email us at and we can help you out. Thanks!

I am a mother of a veteran and a professional counselor, so I am so happy to be able to begin to understand my son’s world.
