Steven L. Sayers, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He has been a clinical research psychologist at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 2000, where he is Director of the Advanced Fellowship Program in Mental Illness Research and Treatment and coordinator of the couple therapy clinic. In addition, he is Director of the national VA call center for family members concerned about the veterans in their lives called Coaching Into Care. The goal of this innovative call center is to provide ongoing telephone-based coaching to family members who are having conversations with the veteran in their family about seeking mental health care. He has published over 70 articles, chapters, and books focused on the role of family members and other social supports in mental and physical health. His recent book for spouses of returning veterans, Coming Back Together: A Guide to Successful Reintegration After Your Partner Returns from Military Deployment, was published by New Harbinger Publications, in July 2014. In 2008 he presented testimony to the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs regarding his research with veterans and their family members.
