COL. USA, Ret.; Caregiver to wife Natalie, combat disabled
Brian and Natalie met in the military and have been married for 17 years. Natalie suffered head injuries in Iraq in 2005 and 2009 resulting in a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Seizure Disorder, Cognitive Disorder, severe migraine headaches, balance issues, and severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Natalie’s injuries made it difficult for her to progress in the Army. In January 2013, she was medically retired from the Army. Brian retired from the Army in October 2012 in order to be a full-time caregiver for Natalie.
Brian and Natalie reside in Florida. Brian is a Fellow with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, which exists to empower and educate military and veteran caregivers and to assist them with resources. Brian enjoys being an advocate for caregivers and finding volunteer opportunities to assist other veterans. Although Brian and Natalie are not living the active lifestyle that envisioned during retirement, they are making the best of the situation. Their Faith and love for each other has helped them get through life’s challenges.
