The app enables a veteran in distress to open the program, select voice, video, or text, and broadcast what Mercado calls a “distress signal” to those veterans signed up as ambassadors. “It’s kind of like texting 10 people at the same time, saying you need help,” Mercado says. The ambassadors are volunteers from across the United States — with a few from Canada and Germany — who go through three levels of training:

  • Operation SAVE
  • Psych Armor Institute
  • National Center for Veterans Studies

Atlas Research CEO Robin Portman Builds on Innovation-Obsessed Culture to Meet Health Industry Challenges

Central to Atlas’ assistance with VA effort is its focus on fostering innovation through strategic partnerships with industry and nonprofit colleagues. In that spirit, Atlas has partnered with the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown’s Bill Novelli, a former AARP CEO who currently oversees an Aging Well hub at the university. Atlas also partnered with a high-tech startup, Amida, to create a data-focused pilot for streamlining veterans’ benefits adjudication. In addition, Atlas has teamed with the nonprofit PsychArmor Institute to provide online training focused on mental health issues impacting veterans and those who care for them.

Trace Adkins, Eddie Trunk To Co-Host Guitar Legends for Heroes

Trace Adkins and SiriusXM host Eddie Trunk have been tapped to co-host “America Salutes You and Wall Street Rocks Presents: Guitar Legends for Heroes” on Wednesday, November 29th at Terminal 5 in New York City. Special performances include Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi) and Orianthi, Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction), Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Nancy Wilson (Heart), Sam Moore (Sam and Dave), Lindsey Ell, Robert Randolph and Joe Don Rooney (Rascal Flatts). Portions of tickets proceeds will go to charities including Headstrong, Psych Armor, The Elizabeth Dole Foundation, Hope For The Warriors, and Warrior Canine Connection, and Operation Finally Home. The event aims to create national recognition and thanks to United States military, veterans, and their loved ones, and will raise funds for high impact charities that support them.

The Elizabeth Dole Foundation, VA, and USAA Launch New Alliance to Integrate Caregivers Into Veterans Medical Care

Supported by a generous philanthropic investment from USAA, the program will create a model intervention, educating thousands of doctors, nurses and social workers within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) system on effective caregiver support that results in a culture of care that is inclusive of military and veteran caregivers. The Campaign for Inclusive Care is led by the Foundation as part of a long-term strategic partnership with the VA and in collaboration with health system researchers from Duke University, curriculum experts from PsychArmor, and other advisors.
