PsychArmor Institute to Honor Two American Heroes At Annual Gala
SAN DIEGO – Former Department of Veteran Affairs Secretary, Robert McDonald and former member of the House of Representatives and current mental health advocate, Patrick Kennedy will be honored for their years of service, April 6 at the San Diego Air and Space Museum during the Second Annual PsychArmor Institute (PAI) Gala.
“This is such an amazing opportunity to be able to recognize these two great American patriots and showcase the work they’ve done to bridge the civilian-military gap,” said PsychArmor CEO and founder, Marjorie Morrison.
Retired Chairman, President and CEO of Procter & Gamble, Secretary McDonald will receive the Humanitarian Award for his distinguished service as the Secretary of the Department of Veteran Affairs. McDonald took over the agency at a time of crisis and is credited by more than 25 different Veteran Service Organizations for putting the agency back on the right path.
“Secretary Bob was asked to take over during an extremely difficult time,” Morrison said. “And under extreme public scrutiny, was able to bring stability back to the VA and move it toward the future.”
Author of “A Common Struggle,” founder of The Kennedy Forum, and co-founder of One Mind, former Congressman Patrick Kennedy will receive the Advocacy Award for his work in the mental health space. Congressman Kennedy has authored and co-sponsored dozens of bills to increase the understanding and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders, including the National Neurotechnology Initiative Act, the Genomics and Personalized Medicine Act, the COMBAT PTSD Act, and the Alzheimer’s Treatment and Caregiver Support Act.
“No one has done more than Patrick to destigmatize mental health – for both the military and civilians - and to shine a light on the issue of parity for mental health and substance abuse disorders,” Morrison said.
The Gala begins at 6 p.m. with former Undersecretary of the Army and former Congressman, Patrick Murphy serving as the event’s master of ceremonies. The official program begins at 7 p.m. and there will be an after party beginning at 9:30 p.m. Title Sponsors for the gala include the Bob Woodruff Foundation, Comcast NBC Universal, TriWest, Rebecca Moores Foundation, and USAA.
