Dr. Heinlein serves as the Chief, Voluntary Service at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in VISN 4.  She is credentialed as a Certified Administrator of Volunteer Services (CAVS) through the American Hospital Association. 

Prior to her appointment as the Voluntary Service Program Manager, Dr. Heinlein served as Assistant Director of Volunteer Resources in a private sector health care setting leading 1,200+ volunteers. In 2014, Dr. Heinlein served as the Vice-Chair of Volunteers leading over 2,500+ volunteers for the 34th National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Philadelphia.  Dr. Heinlein also had the honor to serve on the Volunteer Committee for Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia from December 2014 through September 2015.

The VAMC Pre-Healthcare Professional Student Volunteer Program and the Employee Ambassador Volunteer Program she implemented have been recognized by the Greater Philadelphia Federal Executive Board for excellence in healthcare volunteerism.

Dr. Heinlein is a VHA Certified Mentor and is well respected as a subject matter expert.   Dr. Heinlein was appointed as a member of the VA Voluntary Service Central Office Field Review Team where she reviews other VA volunteer departments.  She maintains membership with the Delaware Valley Association of Volunteer Administrators and the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Associations (ARNOVA).

Dr. Heinlein wrote a monthly column for VolunteerToday.com (2006-2015) and is Board Member and reviewer for the International Journal of Volunteer Administration.  She co-authored a chapter in the first ever published volunteer administration textbook, Volunteer Administration: Professional Practice, now in its third edition. She earned her PhD in April 2016 with her dissertation focusing on Burnout and Volunteer Resource Managers.

In her spare time, Dr. Heinlein enjoys spending time with her husband and two stepsons.  She is a supporter of animal causes and has rescued now four cats.
