Lisa Colella is the Founder and CEO of Healing Household 6, a unique nonprofit organization that provides assistance to military Caregivers of White Star families, domestic violence and other emergency situations. She is also a Caregiver to her retired USMC husband of 13 years and resides at Camp Lejeune where she assists military families with the struggles of coping with PTSD, TBI, and CTE as well as domestic violence situations due to combat related stressors.

Lisa is currently pursuing her a degree in Psychology focused on military relations at Liberty University and hopes to gain a Master’s degree in Human Services. She is also currently attending Notre Dame to complete her studies in Nonprofit Management.

Lisa’s husband was initially injured as a USMC infantry Marine in 2003 during the Battle of An Nasiriyah. During this battle, from a combination of enemy fire and Air Force strikes, her husband lost 18 men out of 23 and received a Traumatic Brain Injury. He was flown home early from that deployment due to psychological and physical injuries. Her husband recovered and continued to serve and deploy until 2011 when it was apparent his injuries were no longer minor. They faced a medical retirement in 2012, where he was retired for TBI and PTSD. During this time Lisa continued to assist active duty families through the Family Readiness Program as a Family Readiness Assistant.

After retirement as a Military Caregiver she understood the unique trials and stressors associated with caring for a Wounded Warrior. Long hours, VA paperwork, lost medical records, DoD medical boards, triggers from PTSD, behavioral issues and memory impairment from TBI, all had an impact on her life as well as her children’s. Due to lack of resources in crisis situations in her own home, she began working on the development of Healing Household 6 in late 2013 to assist others further. Since then she has worked with thousands of Caregivers through one on one support and through the Healing Household 6 support forum to provide support, resources, and domestic violence relocation to those in tragic situations, and those left behind after veteran suicide. She also runs the only funded program for suicide widows known nationally as Widows of the 22.
